McCorkle Surname Y-DNA Project

Home

Welcome!

Thanks for taking a moment to visit. The McCorkle Surname Y-DNA Project was established on 30 Jun 2005 at FamilyTreeDNA.com External link. If you are a male with surname (last name) McCorkle, or any of its variant spellings, please consider joining the project.

Purpose

This DNA project is offered as a forum for all McCorkle researchers to compare their traditional genealogical research to the results indicated by Y-DNA comparisons. Some research will be proven; perhaps some will be disproven. In some cases, disjointed branches will be linked, thus validating the need for future research. Whatever the results, I'm sure they will be rewarding and beneficial to the larger McCorkle research community, and will increase the genealogical body of knowledge.

Objectives

Genetic genealogy is meant to complement—not replace—traditional genealogical research. To that end, one objective is to discover as many of the genetically distinct McCorkle lines that exist in the world today. Thus, for each McCorkle participant who joins the project, but doesn't match any other participants, a new line is identified. A second objective is to encourage as many participants to join the project. This will allow the related participants from each distinct line to share the results of their traditional research efforts, and help each other learn more about their own clan of McCorkles than any one of them might discover on their own. Genetic genealogy projects are most successful when participation is high.
